See, feel and compare
A photograph can show you shape and colour. It can’t tell you how a seat feels to your body or how a room actually flows once you’re standing in it. Sit the way you would sit at home, and ask whether the sofa supports a conversation as comfortably as it supports an afternoon with a book. Can you get up from it easily? Does the dining chair meet the table at the height you already live with?
Look closely at materials too. Feel the texture of an upholstery, trace the grain of a timber top, run a hand over the finish of a tabletop.
