Coffee Tables

A coffee table is where a living room’s story comes together, the surface every gathering finds its way back to. Explore La Grange Interiors’ curated edit of coffee tables, drawn from three decades of sourcing pieces that hold their own in a room and earn their place at its centre. Sculptural stone forms sit alongside warm timber silhouettes and pieces custom designed by owner Sumari Krige, each chosen to be lived with rather than simply looked at. Start with the space around your sofa, then let scale, surface and finish lead you to the table that belongs in your home.

Choose the scale before the styling

Every good coffee table begins with an honest measure of the room. Set the available footprint against your sofa’s seat height, the surface should meet you at a comfortable reach rather than sit awkwardly above or below it. Leave enough room to move around the piece freely, so it anchors the seating area without crowding the room’s main route through it. A compact sculptural table and a broad central table serve very different rooms, even within the same collection.

Some pieces bring more than one material together. Read the full specification and follow the care guidance for each surface in turn, rather than assuming every stone or every timber behaves the same way.

What should I put on a coffee table?

Start with one considered grouping, perhaps a tray, a favourite book and something you genuinely love to look at, then leave space for the table to do its everyday job. A smaller table often calls for a single object rather than several. Keep anything tall out of the sightline across the seating area, so conversation carries easily from one side of the room to the other.
